Hi, I’m Shauna!

A Chicago suburbs girl turned Las Vegas local, wife, mom to two boys and three doodles, and proud Indiana Hoosier!

Almost 18 years ago, my grandma sat me down and taught me the game she loved and played most days of the week. I was hooked and started playing weekly with friends. She later gave me my very own set, and I’ve been playing ever since.

Over the years I started teaching friends, and in 2025 I became a certified Oh My Mahjong instructor and turned that passion into Las Vegas Mahjong. My goal is simple: to share this beautiful, brain-stimulating, friendship-building game with as many people across the Las Vegas Valley as possible. I’d love to be your mahjong teacher.

Frequently Asked

Do I need to know how to play before coming?

Not at all! Most of our students are complete beginners. MAHJ101 starts from scratch; we’ll teach you everything from sorting the tiles to playing your first hand. No experience needed.

What version of mahjong do you teach?

We teach American Mahjong, played with the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card. This is the most popular version in the US and the one you’ll find at most local games.

What do I need to bring?

Just yourself! We provide the tiles, racks, and everything else you need. If you have your own NMJL card, feel free to bring it; otherwise we’ll have extras.

Can I come alone, or do I need a group?

You’re welcome to come solo! Open play events are a great way to meet fellow players. For private lessons, we can pair you with other students if you don’t have a full group.

How long does it take to learn?

Most people feel comfortable playing after just one 2–3 hour lesson. You won’t be an expert overnight, but you’ll know enough to sit down and play , and that’s when the real fun starts.

Where do you hold classes and events?

Group lessons and open play are held at our studio inside Lucky Hare at 8687 W. Sahara Ave., Suite 200, Las Vegas. For private lessons and private events, we can also come to your home or venue across the Valley for an added travel fee.

What’s the difference between MAHJ101 and MAHJ102?

MAHJ101 is for absolute beginners; we cover the basics from the ground up. MAHJ102 picks up where 101 left off with more hands, strategy, and table time. We recommend taking 101 first.

Can you host a private event for my group?

Absolutely! We do birthday parties, corporate team building, charity events, girls’ nights, and more. Events are fully customized for your group. Just reach out and we’ll plan something amazing.
